We speak to Aspect following a tasty premiere on Four40

Over the last few years within the UK Bass scene, there have been a few labels that have been able to rise to the top of the tree through a combination of top level consistency and impeccable A&R selections. Without a shadow of a doubt, one of those labels has to be Four40 Records, a Birmingham-based imprint whose input into the scene is at this point pretty unmatchable. Their efforts have been on the go for over 10 years at this point and their appetite for showcasing new music and production talents hasn’t seemed to have wavered one bit.

Today we see them unleash yet another top quality release as they welcome the rapidly rising sounds of Aspect to the table. Aspect, for those who aren’t aware, is the alias of an already established production talent, whose name we will keep to ourselves for now. However, it’s clear to see that despite the change in sonic direction, the ability has transferred over as we explore his brand new single ‘Ba Da Bing‘.

It’s an energetic creation to say the least, as we are greeted by a brutal barrage of powerful, metallic drum punches and colourful synthesizer designs. The whole track is built with a level of finesse, with the smooth rhythmic approach and chunky bass actions making it work both in the dances and in a much more home-style setting, a feature that a lot of 4×4 sadly lack.

We sat down for a quick Q&A with Aspect about the new single and working with Four40, which you can check out below:

Q) So firstly, what prompted the launch of Aspect?

A) “I’ve been making a certain sound that combines my dance music influences, and they needed a home, it’s a new direction for me so it felt right to launch a new project”

Q) Who or what was the primary inspiration behind the sound itself?

A) “Growing up listening to House and Garage, Jungle and Drum and Bass, also a good dose of hip hop, these sounds have helped to influence my music and I hope this shines through in the tracks”

Q) How was it working with Four40 on the release?

A) Four40 are a great label they are always open to new sounds and directions, whilst keeping it bassy! It was a no brainer to release with them.”

Q) How has the response been considering it’s such a new project?

A) “So far, amazing! The debut release ‘Feel’ out on Part4 Records received lots of radio play on Radio1, 1Xtra and Kissfm, so I could have asked for a better debut!”

Q) What’s next for Aspect?

A) Releases on 3000Bass, Four40 and a follow up on Part4! I’m so excited to share all the new music I have, and want to establish my sound over this summer!
