Watching the expansive realms of garage and breaks music expand over the last 18 months has been one of the truly great pleasures of being involved with The 3000 Network, a platform that we have operated with a real thirst for musical exploration, especially across our favourite areas of the UK underground. There have been so many exciting success stories surrounding UK labels in the last couple of years, with one of the real newly recognised behemoth’s of course being Time Is Now, a very active subsidiary of Shall Not Fade that has been collecting new artists to the roster and delivering delightful new drops nearly every week since January.

As far as consistency goes, there really haven’t been many projects that have been able to keep pace across 2022, with their explosive schedule being evenly shared between their main imprint and ‘Time Is Now White’, a digital white label replicant, stripping the sound back to the roots with minimal release artwork and even that having an old school them to it. This combination of regular drops has pushed Time Is Now into the driving seat, with this vibrant new four track collection from Peaky Beats, who arrives in time for festival season with a bag of rave-ready bombshells.

We open up with ‘Road Runner’, a nostalgic tap dance through original 2-stepper drums and bubbling bass notation, giving us a very enjoyable introduction, soaked in original UKG energy. This is then followed both by the scintillating sub pulses of ‘Cats From The Back’ which opens up a much more minimal sound to the EP, with the breaks infused synthesizer curls of ‘XL’ then adding a dash of intensity to round off the originals. Finally, Yosh arrives on remix duty to send ‘Road Runner’ somewhere a little different, giving us a vibrant end to a finesse-dripping tracklisting to say the least!
