We speak of consistency very often here at The 3000 Network, with it being in our eyes, the most important element of every label project being the ability to consistently release top quality music on a pretty regular basis. The growth of garage music across both the UK and worldwide, we have seen a plethora of new labels with this concept of consistency written into their very DNA, being one of the main reasons the scene is moving so healthily. Today we are taking a closer look at one of my personal favourite labels, who have been whacking out top quality garage music on a regular basis since way before the recent garage boom!
We are of course talking about the ever-present Strictly Flava, one of the UK’s most popular underground label collectives, who for as long as we have been posting here on threethousand.co.uk, have been real front runners of the game with their roster being the waviest combination of sparkling newcomers and established UKG veterans. This latest drop from Howden is another perfect example of why they are held in such high esteem, keeping the campaign stripped back and entirely about the music over anything else.
We begin our look at this one with the nostalgic mastery of the title track ‘Afters‘, a wonderful collection of old school garage elements, such as the bubbling chord progressions and of course those groovy vocal chops. This one just oozes summertime flavour and it’s one of those tracks you just can’t turn off once it kicks off. The otherside sees us dive into ‘Chatter’, which again draws on those classic themes, this time with much more emphasis on groovy rhythmic cuts and skippy organ chords which lead the way into the sunshine. It’s a wicked pair of originals that are landing straight onto our playlists!
