The team down at Southpoint have been hard at work over the past year or so, despite the constant shift in the UK underground’s primary sonic focus, they always seem to find themselves at the forefront. The last year has seen them put together a combination of spicy grime, garage, tech, breaks and bass releases, with their aim still being entirely focussed on showcasing as wide a spectrum of the UK underground as they possibly can. This brand new EP sees them once again expand their already potent roster of talent, welcoming the magnificent production abilities of Skelecta into the fold for his debut two-tracker, following an explosive debut on the Introducing platform towards the end of 2020.
Now if we are being honest, Skelecta needs little to no introduction, having established himself as one of the most refreshing producers working among the grime, garage and bass spectrum over the last few years, boasting a potent catalogue that screams both consistency and creativity in whichever way you view it. Recently, he has been angling much more towards his own unique brand of UKG, which fits perfectly with the direction the STPT boys are seemingly heading down.
It’s safe to the say that the proof is in the pudding and that this is a link up that makes perfect sense as Skelecta unveils two very original sounding creations. We kick off with a fabulous display of that creativity as we take in ‘Faith’, a super groovy combination of vibrant vocal slices and up-tempo 2-step beats, fused together with smooth sub-heavy energy and a generally uplifting vibe which runs throughout the core of the track, already causing damage in the dances. On the flip, Indira May makes her collaborative return with ‘At Your Table’ already being dubbed as one of the UK’s sounds of the summer, fusing Indira’s unique vocal tone with more skippy rhythmic brilliance from Skelecta, rounding off a very weighty two-track display.
