The general feel across the UKG spectrum is that 2021 was a genuienly solid year for the sound, despite the constant back and forth surrounding the events side of the genre, the actual quality of the releases we are able to see across the full breadth of 2021 was possibly the strongest it’s ever been. Numerous labels were able to play a big part in this, by both championing newcomers and also assisting the more established heavyweights in the scene with very busy release schedules and eye opening promotional campaigns. Today, we are going to be looking at one of the labels that really did lead the way in terms of showcasing both newcomers and already established faces.
DJ EZ’s Nuvolve imprint has without a doubt been one of the shining lights of the last couple of years within garage music’s universal boom. They have consistently unleashed a run of top quality singles and two-trackers, with their short-from release structure and rapid consistency giving a constant barrage of lively flavour. Their latest release sees them link up once again with the ever-present manouvres of MPH, without a doubt one of the UK’s most exciting garage and bass producers, who has gone on to become somehwhat of a household name across the last 2 years with his arrangements and fun-fueled live calendar.
This link up is the perfect way to start the calendar year for both parties, as the party-starting atmosphere reigns supreme on this new single ‘Locked In’. The entire vibe of this tune of something new, focussing heavily on bubbling bass pulses and plucked-sounding synth slaps, coupled with a groovy sub arrangement and super punchy drum structures throughout. It takes influence from MPH’s full production range, with elements of bass, garage and the more American-inspired 4×4 sounds all work in conjunction to deliver a serious system stomper.
