Since the start of the year, certain labels and imprints have undoubtedly been pushing the boundaries of what they can do as musical outlets, a number of different heavyweights formatting their release conveyor belt and unleashing a tonne of new music at quite an alaramingly high rate. On the UK bass side of things, we have seen CruCast roll this mantra out across bassline since January and Garage Shared doing this with 2-step and new school garage for the last few years, but today we are looking at a label that have placed themselves right on the hybrid line between UKG and breaks, who have been absolutely slaying it since the start of the year.

That label is of course Time Is Now, a subsidary of the legendary Shall Not Fade that has been taking the underground dance scene by absolute storm over the last 12 months, with their incredibly high release rate and matching quality stats have been near-unmatchable by a lot of surrounding imprints. Their recently launched ‘Time Is Now White’ series focuses on more nostalgic garage & breaks hybrids, with their latest offering seeing Bristol heavyweight: Daffy join the parade. Daffy is another name that has been on a role, with his 2022 being jam-packed with top quality releases, although this latest collection may well take the cake for the highest quality levels.

He has delivered a box of rave-ready weapons with this latest drop, opening up with the high intensity drum shuffles and nostalgia-inducing rhythms of ‘Higher’, which combines a lively patois vocal display with dizzying 4×4 drums and bass action, kicking us off in style. Next, the more warping LFO tones and syncopated rhythms of ‘Darker Days’ are washed into view, with our highlight ‘Take It Easy’ then arriving with a sizzling bassline and high intensity percussion in combination. Finally, the euphoria is concluded with ‘Warped’, another throwback, this time focussing on more niche style arrangements and skippy rhythms, rounding off this masterclass in style.
