Womxn In Bass with Ellie Sabine Singh – Tailor Jae

Posted 6/3/19 in

Tailor Jae is a DJ full of surprises, you can expect bass heavy sets, quick transitions and great technicality. Having graced venues such as The Nest, Lab 11, Redbull Music Academy, Village Underground and beating 2000 plus DJ’s to be crowned Mixmag and Coorslight DJ Quest Winner 2017, Tailor continues to make waves with her non-conformist sets.

She has recently shared the stage with the likes of Peggy Gou, Artwork, Jaguar Skills, MJ Cole, Swindle & Bryan Gee to name a few. And played a set in the infamous mixmag lab.

Tailor has had guest appearances on Rinse FM, Radar Radio, Reprezent,BBC AZN, Foundation FM, Pioneer DJ Radio and is no doubt a dj with a bright future!

I love big energy sets with heavy bass lines because…

It gets me hype and creates such a lively vibe! Growing up in East London, the home of grime, which is known for heavy basslines I’m automatically attached to heavy dirty basslines it’s embedded in my DNA haha. Watching a crowd go hype to incredible dirty basslines is just mad, I love it!

Radio stations can support womxen like me by…

Continuing to allow great music to be played and experienced by all and for all, I think that’s the most important thing, keeps things progressive.

When I wake up I…

Usually want to go straight back to bed lol I’m always sleepy

Track I’m currently rinsing is…

LR Groove – Riddim Beater, it does what it says on the tin for sure absolutely emotional track, the arrangement, the sounds just genius, has the most disgusting bassline it’s filthy, it’s given me wrinkles from screw facing!

Quick plug…

Follow me on instagram @tailorjae, let’s have a chat or two lol promoters hit me up too, I’m ready!

Phrase I seriously over use…

“nah but you know what yeah, like” I say like after everything way too much it’s really bad lol

I love what I do because…

It just allows me to release all types of emotions and connect with people on a spiritual level, music does that, djing does that, i’m quite a chill person so the djing allows me to bring out a more animated side of my personality. It’s allowed me to meet and connect with so many incredible people and share incredible music.

It wouldn’t have happened without…

Self-belief, hours of practice and the producers that send me sick beats, big up to all of them and all the supporters!

Biggest struggle in this business is…

Keeping on top of negative emotions and not being side tracked, with the influx of djs and social media etc things are tougher and it’s hard to stay positive all the time

I aspire to be a womxn like…

My mum, she came here with nothing and built a life which allowed me to be here doing what I do! I wanna take that motivation and build my career that way, I started with nothing on my own and hope to build a career that inspires and helps people to see that nothing can hold them back!

In the rave you will probably catch me…

Skanking like a mad man lol I think I scare people sometimes but when I’m taken by the vibe it’s game over I do not care. I shout oi a lot too, not very attractive but hey ho I can’t contain my excitement!

I love creating…

Unique blends of tunes, I love the challenge of trying to break up a tune and glue it with another in an inconspicuous way. I love creating a unique experience for supporters, I hope that they look forward to hearing their favourite tracks but as they’ve never heard them before.

My proudest career moment so far was…

Of course it’s hard to top playing a mixmag lab! But also winning a scholarship with Point Blank and resident advisor, it wasn’t just handed to me they had to look at what I’d achieved so far on my own, so to be awarded it made me proud because they could see and appreciate the work i’d put into my career. Made it seem like I had progressed and it was appreciated. Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate how far you’ve come until someone else acknowledges it and sees not only your growth but your potential! So big love to them.

My favourite producer is…

I don’t have one tbh too many to choose from but at the moment I’m loving bits by LR Groove and (EL -B) Ghost, Fork & Knife, JKong only ones I can think off the top of my head but there’s loads more

In a dream world…

The world wouldn’t revolve around money, it wouldn’t exist and love would be the ultimate currency, proper cheesy I know lol.
