Womxn In Bass with Ellie Sabine-Singh – Sherry S

Posted 12/2/19 in

In the UK, the male to female ratio of music producers is 49:1. Nevertheless, female DJ’s and producers stay rising; breathing fresh air into the underground, in what can be intimidating, patronising and sometimes unsafe environments. In a conscious effort to bring these powerhouse talents to the forefront of your mind, I will be sharing the stories of some of my favourite producer babes in our weekly #WomxnInBass series.

Here at 3000 Bass we support Keychange’s international initiative which empowers women to transform the future of music and encourages festivals to achieve a 50:50 gender balance by 2022.

So here they are, the #WomxnInBass changing the game in 2019 and beyond!

Let’s have an artist bio

Easy now – I’m Sherry S and I’m producer based in Bristol UK. I make bass music heavily influenced by Garage, Grime, Bassline, Dubstep, Techno and UK Funky!

When I tell people I’m a DJ and producer they…

Ask me what music I make.

The highlight of 2018 festival season was…

Getting to play so many b2b’s with my boyfriend/partner in crime/frequent collaborator, Fish. Sometimes shit can get taken for granted, in all realness it’s a fucking vibe that we got to do so much fun, sick stuff together. Festival season last year was special.

When I wake up I…

Drink coffee, maybe execise or meditate if I’m feeling fruity.

Track I’m currently rinsing is…

Levelz – Warning Call

Quick plug…

My new tune ‘Another Time’ is out March 14th, it’s been going off in the rave so keep an eye out for that!

Phrase I seriously over use…

‘Are ya fucking mad’, ‘Now then mate’.

I love what I do because…

In terms of production; being able to listen back to an idea you’ve had actually develop in to something that you’re happy with is amazing. Getting to hear it on a system for the first time and play it to people is equally rewarding. In terms of DJing – I love it so much. You’re banging these tunes out that you love, on a system, and people are feeling what you feel, they’re on the vibe with you. Whether it’s songs they love already or they’re buzzing off something they’ve heard for the first time. Seeing people passionate about something they’re listening to is special.

It wouldn’t have happened without…

Self-care and building up my confidance.

Biggest struggle in this business is…

Leaving every single coat I ever buy in clubs.

I aspire to be a woman like…

I can lack self-confidance sometimes so I guess I just wanna try to be the the best possible, kindest, version of myself.

In the rave you will probably catch me…

Front left, having a vibe.

I love creating…

Dildos out of plasticine. Lol, not really! I love creating music and I love making lovely dinners. Cooking in general is the tits, I love it.

My proudest career moment so far was…

I feel like what I’m proudest of is what I’ve got to come out, the music I’ve been working on recently. Got some new solo bits that I’m proper happy with and a Dupstep EP with Fish too that is sounding decent. So, really I’m just keen to progress, release more music and make more music!

The last Instagram account I followed was…

Girls of Grime

Most memorable thing that’s ever happened at a set…

Hmm that’s a hard one. At Beatherder last year there was a guy during my b2b with Fish, who had some mad outfit on where he was half Dalmation. He was lost in the music, dancing with this massive dog that was attached to him. He was half gurn, half Dalmation, it was a thing of beauty.

My favourite producer is…

At the moment I’m gonna have to go with Distinkt or Chris Lake.

In a dream world…

Everyone would be nice to eachother.
