This weeks #WomxnInBass is Sydney based DJ, Mincy, who slinks between bassline, speed garage, ukg and grime. You might catch her bossing it at Sydney’s favourite bassline and ukg event Extra Spicy, shelling down your fav radio stations or gracing stages all over the world. We managed to catch up with her below, despite the time difference!
For many, Radar Radio was an epicentre of engagement and a catalyst for creativity. The state-of-the-art station, located in the heart of East London’s hipster district, provided a platform for those who may otherwise be plying their trade from the comfort of their bedroom. Radar had resources en masse: studios equipped with the latest tech, free DJ workshops, and the chance to network with big name brands such as Smirnoff (who were working in collaboration with the station).
As one of the latest additions to the music scene, London-based DJ Freshta is already being labelled one to watch. 2018 saw her spin her dark and bass-centric selections that embrace 140 grime, dubstep and bass on a range of U.K and international stations. From NTS, Reprezent and newly formed Foundation FM to the warmer settings of New Delhi, Shanghai and Barcelona. She did all this whilst holding down her monthly show on Mode FM and repping
This weeks #WomxnInBass is Dutchie, Bristol based DJ, producer and singer-songwriter. She’s the resident DJ for Hold Tight Records and Co-Director of Revinyl C.I.C which offers vinyl DJ courses and free entry open deck vinyl events in Bristol – super dope! We love the work she’s doing and Bristol locals will have seen her name popping up on posters all over the city. This summer is looking tasty for Dutchie, so be sure to show love when she comes to a festival near you!
KG – North London’s UK Funky Queen is known for her Afrobeat inspired, Funky bangers! From dominating the UK club circuit during the early-mid noughties to staying more than active on London’s thriving radio scene today. You probably caught her on NTS, Reprezent Radio, Worldwide FM, Rinse FM or her newly acquired, specialist monthly slot on Foundation FM. KG’s broadcasting and DJ talents are soaring to new heights, which is apparent when on the receiving end of highly regarded co-signs, from the likes of BBC 1Xtra’s Jamz Supernova and Tash LC.
With more than 10 years in the game, Amsterdam’s Rachel Green is known for her unusual selections and onpoint mixing. Rachel grew up on Hip Hop, Dubstep and Funk, and her constantly evolving inspiration can be heard when she’s playing at radio stations, stages and clubs around the world.
