Over the last few years we have seen the legendary Punks imprint swarm and rush to the front of the bass scene within the UK and beyond, as they continue to pioneer and champion the space between space and breaks. We have seen them put together one of the most exciting artist rosters currently active and they have just added to it again as they bring forward 9TRANE for an inevitably storming single.
Within a crowded underground scene, there is massive competition large areas of different genres to stand out and be as original as possible, without losing track of the genres you are supposedly attached to. However in an age where collaborations and cross genre experiments are appearing on every corner, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to tell who is associated with what anymore.
Over the Christmas period, it’s safe to say that the internet is a wash with compilations, both celebrating the holidays and providing a yearly round up of different label’s progress over the last twelve months. One label that continues to push the best out of their artists for their Christmas eve giveaway is Southpoint, who have yet again put together a colossal collection of heaters as they bring out the sixth edition of their ‘Southpoint Presents’ series.
The EP starts slowly, with ‘Perctrak’s gentle build leading into a sub heavy breakdown, dominated by an ethereal vocal sample. We’re then launched straight into a drop clearly inspired by 9TRANE’s previous grime and dubstep productions, with eski clicks and 808 bass abound.
Starting as a club night aimed at bringing more diversity to the scene in Leeds, 1Forty are back with their third release this year, after a slew of three massive free EPs in 2017. With a pretty impressive social media presence, 1Forty is pretty hard to miss.
