Garage, garage and more garage. The last 2 years has been a sensational period to be involved in underground dance music here in the UK, with so many exciting and consistent new projects slowly but surely working their way into the public eye. As a result of this, the UKG sound has done nothing but grow in this time period, ushering in a brand new era for the sound. You only have to look at just how much new garage music became available on last week’s “Bandcamp Day” to see how incredibly popular the sound has now become again.
Today, we are going to be taking a closer look at one of the leading labels in the UK, especially when it comes to showcasing the very best of new emerging artists from around the world. We are of course talking about Strictly Flava, a project whose catalogue has grown into something pretty magnificent. Today we are taking a look at their latest release as they welcome the wonderful combined talents of both Kuno and Shey Rah inside for two fabulous examples of where garage is at in 2020.
It’s another truly international affair for this one, with Kuno being a Hamburg based producer and Shey Rah finding her residence in Amsterdam. We can hear a lot of additional influences throughout EP which adds that extra layer of seasoning we have found to be typical of a Strictly Flava release, with ‘Chains’ creating a perfect fusion between glistening breakbeat drum lines and moogy LFO warps, all dancing beneath some extremely nostalgic vocal work. On the flipside, we are greeted by another glimmering UKG soundscape, sweeping blissfully between icey pad textrues and engulfing bass tones to a provide a much more eclectic alternative B-side.
We loved taking this one in and you can check out the full EP below:
