It’s been an incredibly successful year for the Four40 camp, who have continuously pushed out top quality releases fromt the start of the year, spending the most part of the year releasing an EP a week. They have pushed their feelers out into a multitude of different genres as well, with a central theme around garage, bass and even a couple of grimey pieces in there. We love to see such high levels of consistency, especially when it involves a label with such an extensive release history as Four40.
They continue their exciting release run here as they invite in the sounds of MMEE, who arrives on the label with a fiery new single, showcasing his style perfectly. It’s also been an enjoyable end to the year for MMEE, who here follows up on a powerful two tracker on Broken less than a month ago.
The track itself takes the name ‘Subzero’ and is an extremely futuristic roller, kicking off firstly with a combination of glittering breakbeat samples and pulsating bass tones. The composition then intensifies as we find ourselves whirling towards an absolutely lethal breakdown, pushing those pulsating tones further forward with a set of sharp, well processed drum puinches behind. This is definitely a riddim to cause a ruckus in any bass rave.
That’s most certainly not all that we have on offer here however, as we also see MKII make his return to Four40 with yet another soundscape-heavy refix. He takes the original recording and completely redesigns its layout into a crunchy, atmospheric UKG slap, perfect for the late night listeners.
We have seriously enjoyed Four40’s output over the course of 2019, and couldn’t be more excited to see what they have in store for 2020. We have attached the SoundCloud link to this one below, which is out now on all stores and streaming platforms!
