A few weeks ago, across numerous different networks I decided to open up a very interesting question, which surprisingly enough, since I first mentioned it, has gone on to become a more and more apparent topic of discussion. Garage is undeniably one of the UK’s proudest musical exports and with the sound becoming more and more global every week, it’s safe to say that this new wave of waviness is here to stay. The discussion however was never questioning the popularity of this new garage motion, but more-so it’s formatting and layout, primarily centring around vocal-lead compositions and whether they are set to become the UK’s sound of the summer.

Over the past few months we have seen numerous people shifting towards this, be it Sammy Virji teaming up with his sister for original singalong vocals, the likes of Smasher, Idris Miles, Dips & Lo-Wu and more delivering smooth rap-style takes, or even an increase in choppy vocal samples from producers unable to find the correct link ups. Today we are taking a closer look at two original heavyweights in the garage sound as they now get involve with this vocal direction. Those names are of course Matt Jam Lamont & Echelon, who return to their home imprint of Undagrnd Freqz for an ice-cold feature.

Of course, we are hear discussing vocals today, which means this new single features one, coming from the fantastic Syren Rivers to be precise. When you link a vocal talent as strong as Syren together with the experience and musical makeup of the Undagrnd Freqz founders, it’s going to be difficult to disappoint as the team deliver a super colourful fusion of original UKG chord-driven compositional flavour, bouncing bass action and singalong lyricism. The combination of ingredients gives us the perfect bbq-ready recipe, making this tune a must-add to all summer playlists in our own humble opinion.
