We love to see labels grow more than anything, especially when they are platforms and imprints we have had the pleasure working with numerous times. Today, are going to take a look, once again at Incursion Recordings, a label project headed up by a small team of producers, who were extremely keen to focus on the sound itself, rather than who had released where and the stats attached to their catalogues. This has of course lead to into becoming one of the first places bass music fans around the world tend to flock to when looking for exciting new talent, with their roster often consisting of newcomers jam-packed with new ideas and creations.
This new release sees them welcome an exciting new talent who goes by the name of Ryan PWM, unleashing a powerful selection of originals with a bit of twist, which again ties into one of the central themes we see popping up so regularly from the Incursion camp, who in an upcoming edition of The JunoDownload podcast we hear them discuss their love of moving things in multiple genre directions, rather than being tied to once particular sound or trend.
We kick off the EP itself with a look at ‘Freak Your Mind’, a tech-house inspired moog-athon, combining well processed kick drum leads with a tidy call and respond between oldschool bass pulses and sizzling reese textures, again championing the Incursion mantra of not being tied to individual genre styles. We find an array on similar instrumentation on ‘Run Catch Kill’, although this time we find ourselves exploring a slightly more euphoric arrangement, before moving onto a sub-heavy smasher in ‘R12’, a super groovy floor filler, providing a cool level of variation. Finally, the shuffling kick patterns and steady LFO warbles of ‘Every Day & Night’, adding that perfect spicy touch to round us off in style.
