Over the years we have very much been enjoying the eb and flow of dubstep‘s constant expansion and opening of influences, with the sound within the genre always growing and morphing. This never-ending evolution has seen so many different areas of music be sucked into the whirlpool of 140BPM beats that we do truly feel has become one of, if not THE most creative area of underground dance music in 2020. We see many artists come and go, which is why we were absolutely thrilled to see the welcome return of ENiGMA Dubz, a producer who has an incredible range of genres under his belt.
The first time we heard an ENiGMA Dubz dubstep track was a fair while ago now, since then we have seen him traverse so many different peaks of UK bass music, from a number of stunning garage creations to warbling bassline bangers and even some atmospheric additions for good measure. Today however, as we said above, he is back in his homeland of 140BPM as he links up with the incredibly consistent team at Dub Vendor to bring us three sizzling originals.
Straight from the off we can tell we are going to be in for a good time as we find ourselves immersed in the swirling, all engulfing bass twirls and impactful vocal samples of the aptly named ‘Steppers‘. Following on from an explosive entrance, we then meander into the title track ‘Greedy Gutz‘, an acidic exploration into synthesizer design and unusual harmonic structures, giving us something extremely fresh to play with through out the introduction, leading to a super nostalgic breakdown driven by reverberated LFO patterns.
Finally, ‘Descending‘ combines metallic plucks with spacey, well designed drum structures to add some differentiation at the final turn. The project as a whole is a perfect example of why ENiGMA his held in such high regard within the dubstep scene and we have attached the track-listing for your enjoyment below:
