For quite some time now, we have been seriously admiring the work that Barely Royal has been putting into the scene, with a stack of extremely well received releases at his side and a constantly evolving production style, we have no doubts that he sits currently among the upper echelons of UK Bass producers.
The Bristol based producer has already had somewhat of an epic year, with a string of fantastic drops coming to us regularly via his home imprint: Saucy Records. The most recent of these projects is entitled ‘Follow Me’ with features Gid Sedgwick and SK!N, along with a multitude of high profile remixes from the likes of Levela, HODA, Sh?m and Zurra.
He has today got together with LØ for a brand new banger, which goes by the name of ‘Show It Off’, coming to us courtesy of DJ Zinc‘s legendary Bingo Bass imprint. The track itself is a warbling belter, packed with grizzly synthesizer energies and sharp, precise rhythmic design.
The track itself is available to purchase here!
We are here today to present to you a goodie bag of Barely Royal treats surrounding the release, the first of which is his long awaited edition of Charted, in which we ask artists to list and describe their current top 10 tracks to play or listen to.
He has also gifted us an exclusive mix, which we have to say is absolutely dripping in sauce, buzzing from start to finish with bangers from the likes of Freddie Martin, MPH, Shapes, Wittyboy, Chris Lorenzo and more. All of these treats are available to check out below:
Claybrook – Headshot
Probably the most outrageous bassline tune I’ve heard in a very long time, super creative sound design with a very moody vibe.
Affiliate ft. Dakota Sixx – Change Your Mind (Pelikann Remix)
As you would expect, Pelikann smashed his remix of Affiliate‘s instant classic, change your mind. “Bro-line” at its finest!
Shapes – In The Moment
Shapes have killed this one. The 80s influenced intro transitions perfectly into the drop with real attitude!
Axel Boy & Jauz – I Dare You
Axel Boy linking up with Bite This Head Honcho, Jauz, for this monster tune. Featuring Axel’s own vocals, this hasn’t left my set since it popped in my inbox.
RIGHTMIND – Search & Destroy (feat. Dread MC)
New comer RightMind and the renowned Dread MC have come together for Search & Destroy which does what it says on the tin! RightMind is the bass alias for house head, Zurra, he’s been bringing a lot of heat this year and we have a collab coming next month which I’m very excited about!
Fish & Deekline – Sugar & Spice VIP
Fish & Deekline have fully brought the groove and energy with this breakbeat stomper.
Wittyboy – Narcos VIP
O.G, Wittyboy taking no prisoners with this one. The anthemic bass melody sends crowds loopy.
Bushbaby – Womans Touch
One of my favourites from the Bushbaby catalogue, the lush vocal sampling and reese bass were simply meant to be together!
Skeptical – Musket
I was left in a state of shock after hearing this for the first time, such a unique amalgamation of sub genres.
Unglued & Phace – Malware
As you would expect from these, complete and utter carnage!
Honourable mention: Noisia – The Hole Pt 1.
I just had to add this as a separate bonus mention as the gods that are Noisia have proved they are in a completely different league with this one. The fact it has an irregular time signature of 17/8 but still keeping all the common traits of a drum and bass tune is truly inspiring.
